2019 Fall Auditions have come to an end. We hope to see you at our 2020 Fall Auditions!
THE AUDITION PROCESS
The audition in its entirety will take around 5-10 minutes. There is, however, a chance that we may be running behind or ahead of schedule. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to your audition, and be prepared to stay a bit after your scheduled audition time, in the off chance that we are running behind.
The panel of judges will consist of our music director and a few more individuals.
Please be prepared to sing a short, 30 second to one minute section from a song of your choice - this roughly translates to a verse and a chorus. We are also asking that you sing without an instrument or accompaniment. We will provide a starting note, if desired.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Should I be scared?
A: Although the nature and the idea of an audition can be scary, we don't want you to be scared. We want you to sound your best and succeed. Everyone sitting on the panel has sat through an audition and we understand that it can be nerve-racking. Just breathe!
Q: All of the audition slots are filled. Can I still audition?
A: Of course! This should not discourage you at all. We accept and encourage walk-in auditions. We'll have to give priority to those who signed up, but we will fit you in whenever we can.
Q: I don't know what song to sing. What should I do?
A: We suggest that you pick a song that highlights the best parts of your voice. If you think you're the next Queen Bey, then we want to hear you sing a powerful song. If you have a nice, soft, airy voice, then go for something a little softer and sweeter.
Q: Is it okay if I don't have any experience?
A: While experience would help, it is not absolutely necessary for your admission into the group. We love raw talent. For some of our own members, this was their first time singing.
Q: When will I find out if I got a callback or not?
A: We will try to send out the callback list the night of the last round of auditions!
Q: I can't make callbacks! What do I do?
A: Unfortunately, we require that you attend our callbacks in order for you to be considered for the group. However, if you talk to us, we may be able to figure out a solution.
Q: I totally blanked and missed the auditions for Resonance. Will there be auditions in the winter?
A: Normally, we only hold auditions in the fall. But stay in touch with us and we'll reach out to you when we hold auditions again!
Q: How many people are you taking?
A: The answer varies from year to year. Typically, we accept anywhere between 3-5 people a year. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It all depends on the group of people who audition and on the voice parts that we need.
Q: Why should I audition for Resonance?
A: The better question is why not? We are a family. We love singing. You become a part of a wonderful support system. Rehearsals are fun, but we also strive to sound the absolute best that we can. Just try it!
