  • Prepare to sing a roughly 1 minute cut of any song you choose (about a verse and chorus), with no back-up tracks or accompaniment

Beatboxers:

  • Prepare a roughly 1 minute routine that showcases your style, sense of rhythm/ groove, and any flairs and fills you choose to add

FAQ's

Q: What should I expect from an audition?

A: For your audition, you will sing scales so you can warm up and we can get a feel for your range! Then you will perform a song of your choice that best showcases your vocal abilities and best qualities. This song should be 30 seconds to 1 minute long, which roughly translates to a verse and a chorus.

Q: Do you only accept undergrads into your group?

A: Any UCLA student can be a part of our group! We've had undergrads, Master's students, PhD students, and extension students join Resonance.

Q: I don't know what song to sing. What should I do?

A: Pick a song that highlights the best parts of your voice. We recommend shying away from musical theater and classical music. Other than that, choose whatever song makes you confident and comfortable!

Q: Is it okay if I don't have any experience as a singer or beatboxer?

A: While experience would help, it is not necessary for your admission into the group. We love raw talent. For some of our own members, this was their first time singing or beatboxing!

Q: Do you accept walk-ins?

A: Yes! While signing up for an audition slot will guarantee less of a wait, you can always walk-in for your audition.

Q: I am interested in beatboxing, but I am mostly a singer. What should I do?

A: You can always audition with a singing and beatboxing routine, or let us know that you dabble in beatboxing!

Q: Why should I audition for Resonance?

A: The better question is why not? We love to come together and make beautiful music. We challenge ourselves to compete against top-class talent. But most of all, we're a family. Just go for it!
